Hobart's Weather Hits Paint Hard. Ceramic Coating Hits Back.

Hobart throws a lot at your car's paint. UV from those clear summer days. Tree sap from eucalyptus in the hills. Salt air if you're near the water. Road grime from the Southern Outlet or the East Derwent Highway. Every one of those things is slowly degrading your clear coat, and a standard wash does nothing to stop it.

Ceramic coating bonds directly to your paint at a molecular level. It creates a hard, hydrophobic layer that repels water, resists contamination, and blocks UV before it fades your colour. Your car stays cleaner between washes, looks sharper for longer, and holds its resale value better than an unprotected vehicle sitting on a Hobart driveway.

This is not a wax. It is not a sealant. Ceramic coating is a semi-permanent protective layer that lasts years, not weeks. If you are keeping the car long-term or planning to sell in the next few years, the investment makes sense. One application does the job that dozens of wax coats never could.

The Ceramic Coating Process

1

Initial Inspection and Quote

Josh assesses the current condition of your paint, confirms the right protection tier for your vehicle and goals, and locks in a time that suits you. No obligation, no pressure.

15-20 mins
2

Full Decontamination Wash

The car is hand washed using a two-bucket method to remove all surface dirt, then treated with iron fallout remover and clay bar to strip bonded contamination from the paint. This step is not optional. Coating over contaminated paint locks the contamination in.

45-90 mins
3

Paint Correction

Depending on your chosen tier, a single or multi-stage machine polish is performed to remove swirl marks, light scratches, and oxidation. Ceramic coating amplifies what is under it, so the paint needs to be in the best possible condition before any coating goes on.

2-6 hours
4

Panel Wipe and Surface Prep

Every panel is wiped down with a dedicated panel prep solution to remove any polish residue and oils. This ensures the ceramic coating bonds properly to a completely clean surface with nothing between the coating and the paint.

30-45 mins
5

Ceramic Coating Application

The coating is applied panel by panel using a foam applicator block, worked in and allowed to flash before being levelled with a microfibre cloth. Each layer is applied methodically to ensure full, even coverage with no high spots or missed areas.

2-4 hours
6

Cure, Final Inspection, and Handover

The coating is given time to reach initial cure before a final inspection under multiple lighting conditions to confirm full coverage and finish quality. Josh walks you through the aftercare instructions so you know exactly what to do in the first week to get maximum longevity from your coating.

Ceramic Coating FAQ

Van Diemen Detailing offers three tiers of ceramic coating protection, from an entry-level Essential Protection package through to the full Elite Armour system. Pricing depends on your vehicle size, paint condition, and the level of protection you choose. Get a free quote and Josh will give you a clear, no-surprise price specific to your car.
That depends on the product and tier applied. Entry-level coatings typically last 2-3 years with proper maintenance. The Pro Shield and Elite Armour packages use higher-grade coating systems that are rated for significantly longer. Regular maintenance washes using ceramic-safe products are the biggest factor in getting the maximum life out of your coating.
For most vehicles, plan for a full day. The decontamination, paint correction, coating application, and cure time together take anywhere from 6 to 12 hours depending on the tier and the condition of your paint. Your car will need to stay off the road for at least 12-24 hours after application while the coating reaches initial cure.
The main rule is to avoid automatic car washes with harsh brushes, as these can break down the coating over time. Hand washing or touchless washes are fine. Using a ceramic-safe wash shampoo will help maintain the hydrophobic properties. Josh provides a full aftercare guide with every job so you know exactly what to use and what to avoid.
Yes. The Pro Shield and Elite Armour tiers include a warranty on the coating application and product performance. Warranty length varies by tier. The warranty applies when the aftercare guidelines are followed, which is why Josh takes the time to walk every client through the maintenance requirements at handover.
Ceramic coating, wax, and paint protection film are all different products that do different things. Wax sits on top of the paint and lasts 4-8 weeks at best. Ceramic coating bonds to the paint and lasts years, offering far stronger UV, chemical, and contamination resistance. Paint protection film physically absorbs impacts and is better for stone chips but significantly more expensive. For most Hobart drivers who want long-term protection and an easy-to-clean finish without the cost of full PPF, ceramic coating is the practical choice.
Yes, and a new car is actually one of the best times to apply it. Factory paint is clean and largely unmarked, which means less prep work and the coating goes on over the best possible surface. Applying ceramic coating to a new car protects that factory finish from day one, before Hobart's conditions have any chance to do damage.
You need to be available to drop off or hand over the car, and to be there for the handover at the end so Josh can walk you through the aftercare. You do not need to stay and watch the whole process. Josh will keep you updated and let you know when it is ready.
